Happy New Year from Restumping Melbourne!

Happy New Year from Restumping MelbourneThis is one of our favourite posts that we get to do every year. You can reference all of them on the Restumping Melbourne blog – a place that we love to treat as a wonderful outlet when the clock strikes twelve on New Year’s Eve to welcome you into the New Year and know that everyone will be even better than the last.

There are a couple of goals which never change, but we do like to update the verbiage as we share with the current and new readers of our blog:

  1. We will always do better to beat our best. There’s no question in our minds that we put in the work in 2020, especially with some very extenuating circumstances. This meant that we needed to put in the extra time and effort, looking into outlets where we could continue to learn about how to always be the number one and most prolific/hardworking company in our space. We had no doubts, and never will that we’d be able to succeed, but creativity was definitely the name of the game.
  2. We will always put in more and more hours – as our customers request. Please note, this is never something that will upset us or stress us out. Rather, it’s something that we like to promote and celebrate in all of our marketing, not least of all this site, because it’s incredibly important to us, that a company is always available for our customers – which, as we’ve shared on the blog before, are really our community and even our family. That means that we’re looking into the best ways for you to connect with your contractor – be it any question or comment that you have. Honestly, it doesn’t matter what it is, we should be able to answer it and, in any capacity, or forum that you’d prefer. We’re aiming to have these conversations at the very beginning of intake, no matter what you’re looking for, so that you can always assume that you can reach out via phone, email or in-person and get the answers that you need or want.
  3. Finally, and as teased above – it’s time to get creative. We talked about certain goals in our December posts, but now that we’ve properly celebrated each other and our families, the focus will be on identifying the gaps in the work that we’re currently achieving. Don’t get us wrong, we’re very proud of ourselves, but there’s a reason that we wrote our New Year’s resolutions. They’re so important as we ensure that this year ahead – 2021 – will be one where we challenge ourselves and enjoy every minute of it. So, creativity. Not a problem, especially if these posts and associated conversations continue. We’re going to make things easier for you and maximize the ability to minimize time working on projects, no doubt about it.

Ideas? Bring it. It’s time for all of us to have the very best year yet.

How We Craft Our 2021 Goals

How We Craft Our 2021 GoalsIt would be smart, sensible and logical to assume that we craft our 2021 goals the same way that we’ve crafted our goals for all of the previous years since the inception of Restumping Melbourne as a company. Well, we don’t know about you – but we’ve found that sometimes it’s fun to throw smarts, sensibility and logic out the window. That is to say that every set of goals and resolutions that we put together as a team is completely different from one year to the next. In fact, it’s a valuable exercise for us to reference old thoughts and notes and see how much we may (or may not) have grown.

Well, that time has come for this year and while our lists will be brand-new, there are foundational values that we always ensure are used as our North Star for planning. We don’t look at putting together goals and resolutions as homework, a chore or a task. We look forward to the exercise – a chance to smile and pat ourselves on the back as well as lean in as hard as possible to one of the most cliché times of the year to push and motivate ourselves. Feeling in the same boat? Or maybe you’re the opposite and a little bit stuck. Here are our guiding principles if writing your 2021 goals is on the to-do list this week:

  1. Make goals for both your personal and professional lives. There is a lot of respect for “work-life integration” or “work-life balance” and we appreciate and support that. Neither can work without the other in both models, so you want to pay them each the proper love that they deserve. Think through what worked really well at work this year and why? Were your best days those where you got exercise in the morning and your worst those when you realized you’d spent on lunch? You can paint a picture of your perfect life, and incorporate both work and life.
  2. Keep your goals measurable. You can have a couple of more holistic and aspirational goals that remind you about certain behaviors you’d like to embody, but it’s so much more satisfying at the end of the year to be able to say, “yes, I did run 20 kilometers ten times this year!” When we say measurable, the Restumping Melbourne team recommends that you look at duration of goal, cadence of goal, output of goal and/or deadline of goal.
  3. Set rewards for yourself to look forward to when you complete your chosen goal. They can be big, they can be small, they can be inexpensive or they can be something that you save your wages for months (that could even be one of your goals!) All that matters is that it’s something that you look forward to and that spurs you on when you’re feeling frustrated. Many find success in tying their rewards to their goals, but that’s entirely up to you!

Good luck!

Happy Holidays from Restumping Melbourne

Happy Holidays From Restumping MelbourneThere are a lot of different emotions that come with the holidays. You’re probably a little bit stressed about what different plans look like, what to get the pickiest member of your family for a present or how to sit your eccentric aunt at the annual celebratory dinner. We get it, while advertisers would have you believe that the only thing associated with the holidays is smiles, that’s simply not the case. That said, we want to limit any stress that you have and instead focus on what a banner year this has been. You have a lot to celebrate – you made it! No matter what happened between January 1 and now, we only have to look forward to exciting and rewarding things ahead.

As we’ve mentioned in past posts, when it comes to the holiday season, we look forwards, focus on the present and get excited about the future. There’s no other way to do it. You have to be accountable for both the wins and the losses from the previous year. Of note, there is no shame in having losses. We work on all sorts of properties and that means that we learn lessons all of the time. Sometimes you stump us (which we love by the way) and it takes us just that little bit longer to figure out a solution. There’s no doubt that the Restumping Melbourne team will be able to reinforce the foundation of your home through our restumping, reblocking and underpinning services – it’s just a question of how. We take stock of every project, what went right and what could have gone better and you know what? We always learn from our lessons.

That’s looking backward, and we have to be honest – there weren’t a ton of constructive lessons in 2020. We’re pretty proud of our team and the work orchestrated. The teamwork, the creativity, the patience and more… all contributed to a banner year for the business. Now, let’s talk about the present. A huge virtual high five through the computer or whatever device on which you’re enjoying the Restumping Melbourne blog goes out, not only to our employees but also our customers. Why our customers? You may ask. Because you pushed us to be our best. And that is all that we ask of you. We hope that everyone reading this article is taking a week or two to spend time with family and appreciate what’s really important – hopefully in a home whose foundation has been properly reinforced!

We know that 2021 is going to be even better (even though society and that whole COVID thing might have set 2020’s standards low), so it’s been so much fun thinking about what we want to achieve next year. It’s not even achieving… we’re ready to smash our goals and set new ones every month. In fact, if you have ideas or requests, let us know! The Restumping Melbourne team is always excited to hear from you.

Setting a Foundation for the New Year

Setting a Foundation for the New YearWe hope that the pun wasn’t lost on the audience that normally checks out the Restumping Melbourne blog. We also hope that the pun wasn’t lost on the prospective audience of those that are newer to the Restumping Melbourne blog, and we furthermore want to welcome the prospective audiences of those that are newer to the Restumping Melbourne blog with open arms. Hi! We’re Restumping Melbourne and we are so excited that you’ve stopped by. As noted by the title of the blog post, we’re all about foundations. We’re all about foundations in the metaphorical and the literal sense of the word. But, given that it’s the end of the year and we’re headed into 2020 with a blank slate, there’s no better time to think through the more metaphorical sense of the word. Here are our thoughts on the best ways to set you up for success:

Best Ways to Create a Money Goal for 2020

Let’s first think through your budgets. We have all of the resources in the world to share (thanks to the Information Age), and the best ways to ensure that your money goes the longest and gives the biggest. We want you to donate, we want you to figure out your current finances and we want you to be cognizant of the best budgeting goals for the coming years. Here is one of our favourite articles.

5 Ways To Prepare For The New Year

We want to cater to audiences of all types and ages, and we know the age of home buyers and owners is becoming younger and younger. Thank you, millennials for purchasing homes, we’re excited to cater specifically to your needs. That means that we need to be prescriptive about the best ways to reach you all and the best advice that we can provide. The end of the year can be particularly important for this audience as they think about how to head into a fresh start. This can be tricky, but don’t worry, we have all of the right information that you need. Check out this link for more information.

How to Make the Most of the Fresh Start of a New Year

A big piece of the New Year is making sure that you have the best mindset and are ready to start fresh, coming January first. Sound daunting? No problem, there is an abundance of tools that the Restumping Melbourne team can share with you. But, it goes beyond that. Zen Habits can tell you all about it, but our favourite tip that they share is to simply ‘let go’. Per their Website, “  Many times we are held back by the tangled web of previous failures, commitments, emotions, barriers. We cannot change careers because we’re used to what we’re doing and it’s too hard to change. We cannot find time to get healthy and fit because we have all these other things to do. We cannot find time for our loved ones because we have too many commitments.” Wise words, right? You can learn even more about the art of Zen here.

It’s a lot to take in, we know. But if you want a partner-in-crime, please reach out to the Restumping Melbourne team.

Why We’re Grateful at Restumping Melbourne

Why We're Grateful at Restumping MelbourneOnce a year, we have a legitimate reason to put together a post on the Restumping Melbourne blog about one of our favourite topics. We have a lot of them. It’s why we continue to be so successful in the business that we’re in – restumping, reblocking and underpinning your properties – because we’re so passionate. We have dozens of topics on which we can wax lyrical with each other and with our customers, and these continue to change and evolve. So, when the holidays come around, it’s great because we don’t have to be the ones out of the ordinary who really, really love our jobs. We like to do these posts once a year, but here are the reasons that we’re grateful this year:

We’re grateful that we continue to have the chance to grow

The needs to reblock, underpin or restump your property aren’t going to go away anytime soon. BUT! The ways in which we can do and have. We get to our sites earlier; we’re more flexible with our schedules – depending on your needs. We can stay later, and we can still be respectful of the needs of our employees.

We’re grateful that we can celebrate each other

We do it every day when we show up with a smile and see what we do as a hobby and passion – not just a paycheck. Our team is our family, and we hope that you can tell when you work with us. A family may not always get along, but they have each other’s backs. We answer each other’s questions, we push each other out of our comfort zones, and we’re there to support each other if there are any challenges that arrive along the way. It’s the best way for us to learn and if you haven’t figured it out already, we’re all about learning around here.

We’re grateful that we’ve been so successful

Don’t worry; it hasn’t gone to our heads. We can only hope that it will continue to be the case for years to come.  But, there’s something especially cathartic about the end of a calendar year, because you can’t help but think back on the last 365 days and everything that you’ve achieved. Sure, there were probably some pits along the way and lessons learned. But, overall at Restumping Melbourne, it has been one for the ages, and it is time to celebrate. The holidays can be stressful, but if you just let loose, eat delicious food, enjoy a beverage if you so desire and hug one that’s close to you, you know that you’ve done everything right.

We’re not quite done with the year yet, but we are raising a glass in celebration to all of the above and to you! Cheers to a wonderful year and a wonderful community of customers.

Questions? Let us know. You can tell that we’re in a jolly mood and can’t wait to hear from you.

Taking Care of Your Home During the Holidays

Taking Care of Your Home During the Holidays This YearThe holidays are almost here and they can be some of the most frustrating and stressful months for many different homeowners. Luckily we live in a country where the holidays are warm and sunny, but even so, there are things that we need to ensure are taken care of when the big holidays roll around. We do this on an annual basis, and this year is no different. It’s time for the Restumping Melbourne team to dive into the best ways to take care of your home during the holidays. Some are weather-related, some are holiday-related, all may seem stressful at first, but if you continue to check in on the Restumping Melbourne blog, all are easily kept under control. Read on for more information:

First up… guests. They’re great; they’re most likely family or friends (granted, they could easily be the type of visitors that drop by without any heads up…) There’s a reason that guests AND the holidays are both on the list of the most stressful life events. You’re dealing with a lot of different types of personalities, and needs, and schedules. We give the biggest kudos to those that host during the time of year when there are so many different expectations. So, how do you take care of your home during this stressful time of year? We recommend a few different things: Meals! Ask if there are any allergies or dietary needs. There’s nothing worse than learning about that when you’re sitting down. Next, plan ahead – especially when it comes to where your visitors are going to sleep. Don’t feel unnecessarily stressed. You’ve got this! Finally, reward yourself. Plan something fun for yourself the weeks after the holidays, so that you have something to look forward to.

Obviously, the Restumping Melbourne team is focused on your home, so our next priority should be the actual structure of your home. Again, luckily we don’t live in an area where snow and rain are going to impede on the holiday fun, but we still have to deal with the weather. This is where taking regular care of your home comes in to play. We’ll keep it short and sweet: Rake, sweep gutters if you think it’s going to be a rainy couple of weeks, make sure that you don’t see any warning signs about your foundation (creaky doors that don’t swing shut properly, weird feeling when you walk across the floors, any peeling paint that could be a sign of moisture damage). Just because it’s warm outside [hopefully], doesn’t mean that you won’t notice any of the above.

Luckily, you’re in partnership with the Restumping Melbourne team and we happen to be great experts at all of the above. So much so, that these articles will continue with many more pieces of advice. Questions in the interim? We’re here. Reach out with whatever you need to make sure that your home is safe and secure, not just during the holiday season, but through all of the seasons of the year.

Happy New Years from Restumping Melbourne!

Happy New Years from Restumping Melbourne!New year, same us. We promise. But that doesn’t mean that we’re not still reveling in the 2018 that was, and the 2019 that’s yet to come. Wow – what an awesome year. We don’t even mind repeating ourselves on this topic, because it means that we can continue to compliment and highlight just how lucky we are to have amazing teammates, partners and customers like you.

Again, we always know just how many different opportunities that you have for resources in the area and beyond. We know that it can be stressful, trying to discern the best companies to work with, when you’re enhancing one of your biggest investments in life – your home. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Between you and us, we will always secretly tell you that you made the right decision, because of our storied history in the industry, our commitment to constant improvement and our passion about making you happy.

All of the above are just a few of the reasons that we’re thrilled to kick off the 2019 year. There is always room for growth – you’ll never see the Restumping Melbourne team complacent. It’s what keeps things exciting around here, and there are fewer times throughout the year when this is more prominent. Some of us believe in resolutions and some of us don’t, but all of us know that we only succeed as a team when we have no problem learning and changing to meet your needs.

So, what can you expect from the Restumping Melbourne team this next 365? If you’re a regular on the Restumping Melbourne blog (thank you, thank you), you already know that these posts are a tradition and that there are a few mainstays, which will continue to show up year after year. For those of you that are visiting us for the first time, welcome! We hope that you continue to return and explore exactly how to properly reinforce your house, turn your house into a home and remain passionate and excited about all of the different industries that we touch.

Back to business, what can you look forward to from the Restumping Melbourne team this year. Here goes:

  • New materials – It’s so vital to keep a pulse on the industry and to do deep-dive research beyond just our backyard. It’s so important to us that the wood, the cement, the tools, the accessories that we use, are well-priced, sustainable and ultimately – successful.
  • New processes – There’s always room for improvement here. We can be faster, so that we spend less time disturbing your daily routine. We can work easier, so that our teammates are even happier and more in love with the work that we do.
  • New opportunities – Every time that we add a different kind of terrain or land to our portfolio, we learn new things. Every time we learn new things, we’re able to tackle new challenges, new adventures and ultimately, get the job done for you.

Questions? Comments? Let us know. We’re excited to hear from you.

The Best Way to Decorate Your Home for the Holidays

Decorating Your Home for the HolidaysWe mentioned that we had lots of holiday fun in store for the blog of the Restumping Melbourne team and we weren’t kidding. It’s one of our favourite times of the year, in fact you may remember posts of similar vein in past years. It doesn’t matter where you are and what you celebrate. While we may not see white flurries of snow as a regular practice, it’s still an opportunity to get together with those that are closest to you. It’s time to laugh, eat and drink far too much, and the purpose of this particular blog post – it’s time to decorate your home inside and out.

If you’ve visited the Restumping Melbourne blog a time or two, you know that we’re passionate about not only reinforcing the foundation of your home, but ensuring that it’s safe, comfortable and beautiful from foundation to roof. We stood up this blog as the perfect way to circulate the ideas that we learn about and the stories that inspire us with the valued community of customers that we appreciate so much.

Back to business. What is the best way to decorate your home this holiday season. Let’s focus on the exterior first. It starts at your fence, where you can stand up statues, you can wind lights around the fence, or you can look into greenery. There are pros and cons to each. If you’re looking at anything that needs to take advantage of electricity, you’ll need to confirm what kind of power sources you have outside your front door. Depending on the extent of power that you require, you may need to bring in a generator, but more likely than not, you can run all-weather power cords from within your home or the immediate exterior. If you’re a fan of greenery, it can be a beautiful, clean and classy look to wind branches around your fence or hang a wreath. Just keep in mind the weather and temperate zone of the area in which you live. If you happen to live in an area that doesn’t see a lot of rain, you’ll just want to make sure that you’re taking care of any plants on a regular basis, so that they don’t dry out.

You can continue any sort of decorating motif up to the front door and inside. This is your opportunity to get creative. Don’t be afraid to have fun with colour. Gone are the days when the only lights available to you were of the white variety. You can now choose any colour off a paint palate and chances are good that there will be options available to you.

Not sure where to start for inspiration? There are streets all over the world that aim to have the most festive houses in their communities. Some standouts include these in Britain, these in Canada and this especially comprehensive look around the globe.

Looking forward to a great holiday season with the Restumping Melbourne team.

Tis the Beginning of the Season (for Restumping Melbourne)

Tis the Beginning of the Season (for Restumping Melbourne)Ah, the most joyous of seasons. And every year since we’ve launched the Restumping Melbourne, we have been more and more inspired by those that love the holiday season – no matter what holiday they’re celebrating or how they’re celebrating. The Restumping Melbourne team was founded on the basis to celebrate and support every customer that reaches out to us. This may mean the customers that reach out via phone, it may be the customers that want to correspond by email, and it definitely always includes those that want to see us in person. We’ve been in the restumping, the reblocking and the underpinning business long enough to always appreciate our customers and to know that not only do you have all of the options possible in the surrounding areas, but that you’ve chosen the team at Restumping Melbourne. So, though you can most definitely appreciate and enjoy a myriad of blog posts over the coming weeks in the celebration of the holiday seasons around the world, let’s start here, and know that the Restumping Melbourne team has lots of holiday cheer headed your way through December 31, 2018.

It’s been a year, hasn’t it? We feel like we were just saying this last year and that doesn’t matter, because it turned into another prolific 365! We saw pop culture moments (and we’re sure that we’ll see them through the end of December). We saw moments in the news that broke our hearts, that made us laugh, that made us learn and that encouraged us to take a leap of faith in living in 2019. More to come in future posts before the new year, but this should focus on exactly what the Restumping Melbourne team is grateful for in you and how best to prepare your home and your household for the holiday seasons.

First things first, an overview of what you can expect on the Restumping Melbourne blog over the coming weeks. Again, it doesn’t matter what holiday you’re celebrating, if you’re celebrating any sort of holiday with those closest to you, the most basic of social and hostess-ing / hosting best practices should be top of mind. Luckily for you, because we help reinforce your home from the ground up, it’s a top-tier priority to turn houses into homes and ensure that your homes are the best possible canvas for the holiday celebration of your dreams.

SO, here’s what you can expect:

  • The best ways to weather-proof your home, no matter what mother nature has in store for your area.
  • The best ways to interact with your neighbours – whether you’re doing yard work, inviting them over to celebrate, or asking for an extra egg for the recipe that will make or break your recipes… we’ll talk through the best ways for you to communicate
  • The best ways to maximize your celebration! Hey, we don’t just work on your foundation… we’ve put in our time determining the most magical ways to make sure that you have the best holiday season of all time.

Famous Homes of Horror

Famous Homes of Horror Many countries around the world celebrate Halloween, in unique and interesting ways. Most of the traditions are based in the root of scaring one another, whether that’s through frightening movies, decorations or themed parties. But while some may consider it a Hallmark holiday that was designed to make lots of money, there is a lot of history behind Halloween. There are many myths and tall tales, and lot of them have to do with homes. That’s what really interests the team at Restumping Melbourne. We’re passionate about reinforcing the foundation of your home and that means it’s important to us to learn all about the different elements of each home. We love learning about and sharing how they’re designed, how they’re built, how they’re maintained and how they’re improved. And a big piece of that, is looking at their history. So we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for a spooky blog post about the world’s most famous scary homes.

Our first home can be found in a small rural American town in Iowa. More than 100 years ago, an entire family and two guests were bludgeoned. It’s remained a cold case every since and the house has been untouched as far as updates and renovations. That doesn’t stop interested visitors from spending more than $400 a night. History repeated itself a little bit in 2014, when a paranormal investigator, no less, stabbed himself in his room.

In England, there is a beautiful country home called Raynham Hall. It’s located in Norfolk. It may be easy on the eyes, but it has a dark past. It’s said to be home to Lady Dorothy Walpole, or the mysterious “Brown Lady.” She’s famously an apparition that was caught on camera in the Country Life of December 1936.

When you think of Venice, Italy, you probably think of the beautiful architecture and famous food. While if you take a quick jaunt over the island of Poveglia, you’ll learn about a very different accolade. It used to be the quarantine zone for anyone who suffered from the famous plague. It was also used in the 1900s as an insane asylum. Between the two, Poveglia has earned a reputation as a “hot bed of paranormal activity” by ghost hunters from around the world.

Another American example can be found in Kansas. It’s called the Sallie House and was home to a little girl who had a botched appendectomy. It’s rumoured that her spirit remains and is quite active – causing flying objects and apparitions that are famously targeted at male visitors. The home was even the subject of a TV show in the 1990s called Sightings. It’s vacant, if you’re looking to make the move…

All of the hocus pocus aside, the Restumping Melbourne team is here to ensure no tricks befall your current or future home. Questions? Comments? Let us know. We’d love to hear from you and start the conversation about properly reinforcing your foundation.
